Ling 6 Sound Application app for iPhone and iPad
Allows a quick and easy way to check and see that a child detects those sounds that lie within the speech spectrum of hearing. The Ling 6 Sound test can be used daily to insure that aids and cochlear implants are functioning properly. The test allows parents, professionals, and teachers to know the child’s distance hearing or earshot. Knowing the status of hearing in young implanted children is vitally important for sounds must first be detected before the brain can be stimulated. For the first few weeks, maybe months, the child is happy to comply. Then boredom sets in. This is the problem that was faced by many parents when the child refuses to play along. To keep interest, this iPhone app was developed for the purpose of playing those sounds. The app was developed to entice a three year old bilaterally implanted child to encourage response to the Ling sounds. Where once we received a emphatic "No" to testing the sounds, he will sit and play sound games and this app until the battery runs dry. After a long debate, it was decided that although simple, this app may help many children and adults.

Simple, yet powerful App!
Simple - a few taps, and your Ling 6 testing is complete! This app could be used in many different ways -- having siblings take turns playing the sounds and the other showing the corresponding picture or repeating the sound ... using a FLY SWATTER to swat the sound when you hear it ... auditory memory, playing two or three sounds and having them arrange picture cards or pass the iPhone to them and have them repeat the pattern. The options are endless!
A suggestion for the next version -- a way to track what sounds were missed with the date. Possibly even have a home screen to select a student, then go to the Ling sounds, then enter in missed sounds to track a few different students. That way we can track data to help share with the students audiologist.
Ling app review
Need option for which picture represents the sound and what type of voice is presented (child, male, female). Sound quality needs to improve too

I was very disappointed in this app. The child can tap the picture and the sound is produced. That is all! What you see on the app picture is everything there is. It would be helpful to have a way of recording different childrens scores, with different ears, distances, dates etc. Dont waste your money until they add something useful.
has potential
This app worked for a brief time then crashed. Now only one sound can only be heard for half a second then it exits the app and returns to the main screen of my iphone. I am very interested in seeing this app developed more so that it can be used in homes with young children and their parents as a way for training for the audiology booth. I could see older kids using this to self-check their amplification devices as well. It would be nice if volume could be measured in dB. Keep on making improvements as I think this has potential.
DO NOT BUY
Do not buy. This app does not work since loaded OS 5 . The author of this app does not respond to requests for help. Would rate a zero if possible. If the author would respond to my requests for help I would be willing to change this rating.
